Trail Highlights: This very steep road has several scenic overlooks of Mt. Elbert, Mt. Massive, the Sawatch Range, Homestake Peak, Camp Hale, and the Gore Range. Historic features include 3 old cabins along the route at mile points 0.1 and 1.9. This steep 4-wheel drive road offers a very scenic drive for the more serious jeeper. The steep muddy condition of the higher sections demand good judgment when the road is wet. Motorized vehicles are not allowed within 1/4 mile of any of the 10th Mtn. Division Huts. To continue to Jackal Hut (which must be reserved through the 10th Mtn. Division Hut Association), you must park and continue on foot or bike.
