Access from Vail: Travel west on I-70 past Eagle 13 miles to the Dotsero exit where you will travel north for 1.5 miles and take a left on Coffee Pot Road.  Travel on this road for 30 miles until you pass the Deep Lake turnoff to FDR 618.  This road will eventually veer right and downhill to Sam’s Springs at about 7 miles.

Trail Highlights:  You will start out with a bird’s eye view of Deep Lake as you conquer easy grades for the first 3 miles.  At this point you will encounter a fork where you will want to veer right.  This section of the trail is downhill and is fairly steep and rocky making it especially difficult in wet conditions.  At the end of the trail you can get out and hike along a ridge that skirts a gorgeous meadow and aspen fields.  This area is especially beautiful in the fall with an abundance of wildflowers and wildlife.  This trail can be accessed from June to November which is a longer portion of the year than most other Rocky Mountain Trails.
